February Dreams
I share with you a handful of poems inspired by one word prompts from Petra Hernandez and the February Poetry Adventure. 🙏 Photo by Jan Canty on Unsplash
Night
The curtain falls - the veil lifts,
a hush creeps in on silent feet,
and the unseen world awakens.
Let Night embrace you in
her cloak of darkness, and
kindle your holy flame.
Listen to how the silence speaks
and unfurl your sleeping dreams.
Open the dome of emptiness
and find it is brimming with light,
here the Mystery speaks -
there is no dawn without
the Night.
Fox
Rushing to the beach
as the sun slipped above the
horizon, we crossed the
sandy edge and there
he stopped us in our tracks
in his fine red coat and midnight socks,
elegant and fierce.
We were mesmerized
at the beauty of this wild thing
who paused with us for
that moment
in the stillness between night and day,
the fox and us
on that sandy path,
as dawn broke
over the sea.
Nap
I cannot help but envy
my curled up cat
who slumbers in the sun,
not a care in the world,
she spends her days
doing Exactly
as she pleases.
Creek
The creek meanders
through the forest
the way I want to move,
with its slow gurgle
and sunny stones,
it has no need to hurry.
Its banks are adorned
with a village of ferns,
and a carpet of emerald moss.
The dragonflies shimmer and
the salamanders sleep in the silt.
A perfect place for me to dream,
my bare feet kissed by the cool water,
and my thoughts floating free
on the ripples.
Dandelion
Like a tiny lion you roar
with a mouth of gold,
a tenacious weed
some might say,
but I see your resilience,
teaching me how
to grow through stone,
how to rise with joy
and set my wishes
free.
Cloud
The clouds have landed
in my tea,
how lovely this is to me,
to see the world reflected here,
the river, the rain, the mist
and we.
(inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh)
